Our research is focused on examining the video quality assessment model based on the MPEG-7 descriptor. Video quality is estimated by using several features based on the predicted frame quality such as average value, worst value, best value, standard deviation, and the predicted frame rate obtained from descriptor information. As a result, assessment of video quality can be conducted with a high prediction accuracy with correlation coefficient=0.94, standard deviation of error=0.24, maximum error=0.68 and outlier ratio=0.23.

Digitalization in electronic systems requires the electronics devices in de-coupler sets with low impedance at high frequency, and high reliability. A shield strip type line component with aluminum substrate, its surface oxidized dielectric layer and a conducting polymer electrolyte has been developed. The conducting polymers of polypyrrole and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) have been formed by direct chemical oxidative polymerization and electrochemical polymerization on a dielectric layer. Thus, the surface of the dielectric layer is covered with conducting polymer films. The structure of the line component is strip line conformation just like a crushed coaxial cable with in-put and out-put terminals surrounded by the conducting polymer electrolyte. Two types of the components, i.e., a large surface area, 10 20 mm, and a small surface area, 4 4 mm, have been fabricated with polypyrrole and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene), respectively. The dielectric properties of these line components have been investigated with a Impedance/Gain-phase analyzer and a network analyzer. Due to the high conductivity of the polymer electrolytes, the line components demonstrate low impedance at resonance frequency. Regarding the frequency characteristics of the line components, the impedance and ESR at high frequency are lower than those of the conventional capacitors. Furthermore, the transfer coefficients, S21, are three orders lower than those of other capacitors in a wide frequency band from 10 kHz to 6 GHz. The results indicate the excellent characteristics of the line components for the power line de-coupler set at the boundary of the closed circuit unit.
Our research is focused on examining a stereoscopic quality assessment model for stereoscopic images with disparate quality in left and right images for glasses-free stereo vision. In this paper, we examine the objective assessment model of 3-D images, considering the difference in image quality between each view-point generated by the disparity-compensated coding. A overall stereoscopic image quality can be estimated by using only predicted values of left and right 2-D image qualities based on the MPEG-7 descriptor information without using any disparity information. As a result, the stereoscopic still image quality is assessed with high prediction accuracy with correlation coefficient=0.98 and average error=0.17.

This paper describes a newly developed FET Coupled Logic (FCL) circuit that operates at very high frequencies with very low supply voltages below 3.3 V. An FCL circuit consists of NMOS source-coupled transistor pairs for current switches, load resistors, emitter followers and current sources that are controlled by a band-gap reference bias generator. The characteristics and performance are discussed by comparing this circuit with other high-speed circuits. The optimal circuit parameters for FCL circuits are also discussed, and the fact is noted that a larger swing voltage enhances the circuit's performance. The simulated delay of a 0.25 µm FCL circuit is less than 15 ps for a 2.5 V power supply, and the simulated maximum toggle frequencies are over 5 GHz and 10 GHz at 2.5 V and 3.3 V power supply, respectively. The simulation results show that FCL circuits achieve the best performance among the current mode circuits, which include ECL circuits, NMOS source-coupled logic circuits. The delay of the FCL circuit is less than half that of an ECL circuit. The maximum toggle frequency of the FCL circuit is about triple that of NMOS source-coupled logic circuit. Because the FCL circuit uses low-cost CMOS-based BiCMOS technologies, its cost performance is superior to ECL circuits that require expensive base-emitter self-aligned processes and trench isolation processes. Using depletion-mode NMOS transistors for current switches can lower the minimum supply voltage for FCL circuits and it is below 1.5 V. The FCL circuit is a promising logic gate circuit for multi-Gbit/s tele/data communication LSIs.

A 1.5 V 8 mW BiCMOS video A/D converter has been developed by using a BiCMOS pumping comparator. Combining Bipolar high-speed and good-matching characteristics with CMOS switched capacitor techniques, this A/D converter is suitable for use in battery-operated multimedia terminals.

We have developed the new energy storage system utilizing a radical redox reaction of poly (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinoxy methacrylate), PTMA. The coin-type cell with PTMA cathode demonstrates the charge capacity of is 72 Ah/kg, which corresponds to 65% of the theoretical capacity, and the coulombic efficiency was 90% in first charge-discharge cycle. The results indicate that the stable polyradical cathodes are promising materials due to their high charge utilization and the possibilities for the wide diversity of molecular design.

We have developed a high-power organic radical battery for information technology equipment such as personal computers (PCs). The battery provides several minutes of backup power without an external uninterrupted power source. Since the built-in battery makes energy conversion from AC to DC, or DC to AC, unnecessary, it protects equipment from power failure with no loss of energy. The fabricated battery shows a high power density of 1 kW/L and is capable of driving a desktop PC for several minutes. The use of purely organic polyradicals, poly (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidinyloxy mathacrylate), for the cathode active material opens up a new field of high power density, environmentally friendly batteries.
Our research is focused on examining the Image Quality Assessment Model based on the MPEG-7 descriptor and the No Reference model. The model retrieves a reference image using image search and evaluate its subject score as a pseudo Reduced Reference model. The MPEG-7 descriptor was originally used for content retrieval, but we discovered that the MPEG-7 descriptor can also be used for image quality assessment. We examined the performance of the proposed model and the results revealed that this method has a higher performance rating than the SSIM.
