Advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) is a kind of wireless sensor network that provides two-way communication between smart meters and city utilities in the neighborhood area of the smart grid. And the routing protocol for low-power and lossy network (RPL) is being considered for use in AMI networks. However, there still exist several problems that need to be solved, especially with respect to QoS guarantees. To address these problems, an improved algorithm of RPL based on triangle module operator named as TMO is proposed. TMO comprehensively evaluates routing metrics: end-to-end delay, number of hops, expected transmission count, node remaining energy, and child node count. Moreover, TMO uses triangle module operator to fuse membership functions of these routing metrics. Then, the node with minimum rank value will be selected as preferred parent (the next hop). Consequently, the QoS of RPL-based AMI networks can be guaranteed effectively. Simulation results show that TMO offers a great improvement over several the most popular schemes for RPL like ETXOF, OF-FL and additive composition metric manners in terms of network lifetime, average end-to-end delay, average packet loss ratio, average hop count from nodes to root, etc.

Channel estimation using data-dependent superimposed training (DDST) is developed to doubly selective channels of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems; it consumes no extra bandwidth. An Inter-carrier interference (ICI) Self-cancelation method based on DDST scheme, IS-DDST, is designed which mitigates the interference from adjacent subcarriers to estimation. Moreover, a dual-iteration detection method is proposed to mitigate the ICI for IS-DDST scheme. Theoretical analysis and simulations show that the proposed scheme can achieve better Mean Square Error (MSE) and Bit Error Ratio (BER) performance than the existing DDST based scheme.

In this letter, a quantization error-aware Tomlinson-Harashinma Precoding (THP) is proposed based on the equivalent zero-forcing (ZF) criterion in Multiuser Multiple-Input Single-Output (MU-MISO) systems with limited feedback, where the transmitter has only quantized channel direction information (CDI). This precoding scheme is robust to the channel uncertainties arising from the quantization error and the lack of channel magnitude information (CMI). Our simulation results show that the new THP scheme outperforms the conventional precoding scheme in limited feedback systems with respect to Bit Error Ratio (BER).

Information-centric networking (ICN) is a promising architecture and has attracted much attention in the area of future Internet architectures. As one of the key technologies in ICN, in-network caching can enhance content retrieval at a global scale without requiring any special infrastructure. In this paper, we propose a workload-aware caching policy, LRU-GT, which allows cache nodes to protect newly cached contents for a period of time (guard time) during which contents are protected from being replaced. LRU-GT can utilize the temporal locality and distinguish contents of different popularity, which are both the characteristics of the workload. Cache replacement is modeled as a semi-Markov process under the Independent Reference Model (IRM) assumption and a theoretical analysis proves that popular contents have longer sojourn time in the cache compared with unpopular ones in LRU-GT and the value of guard time can affect the cache hit ratio. We also propose a dynamic guard time adjustment algorithm to optimize the performance. Simulation results show that LRU-GT can reduce the average hops to get contents and improve cache hit ratio.

As a promising future network architecture, Information-centric networking (ICN) has attracted much attention, its ubiquitous in-network caching is one of the key technologies to optimize the dissemination of information. However, considering the diversity of contents and the limitation of cache resources in the Internet, it is usually difficult to find a one-fit-all caching strategy. How to manage the ubiquitous in-network cache in ICN has become an important problem. In this paper, we explore ways to improve cache performance from the three perspectives of spatiality, temporality and availability, based on which we further propose an in-network cache management strategy to support differentiated service. We divide contents requested in the network into different levels and the selection of caching strategies depends on the content level. Furthermore, the corresponding models of utilizing cache resources in spatiality, temporality and availability are also derived for comparison and analysis. Simulation verifies that our differentiated service based cache management strategy can optimize the utilization of cache resources and get higher overall cache performance.
